Well, I discovered the "load" function, which is quite neat, because it
tries to load any kind of data, and return it as a standard image. The
problem is that it failed on most of the data I had. Pierre sent me some
data yesterday that I'll look at today and see what I can do with it.
Part of the problem is that their is no clear relation between the sample
data in the nipi-data svn and the different loading and processing
algorithms. I think the reasons I am having difficulties is mostly
related to my complete ignorance of the field.

This would be fantastic. It is a lot of work. May I suggest maintaining a
set of demo scripts (using the example data). It should be easier to keep
them working (use them as tests), and if they are well writen and
commented, them should make it clear for the user how the work should be
done. IMHO they should be ran on a regular basis, like tests, maybe even
automatically every night.
