quick note: I don't recall any thread on this, so if I missed
something and you have any questions, please let me know.  That stuff
is not super-elegant, but it gets the job done and I'm quite happily
using it.  Yesterday I committed some changes to the mkdoctests script
and finally gave it a proper usage strings which explains how to use
it, that should help others besides me.
