I think you are right that there are not many people using traits
outside Enthought.  As Fernando implied, one large benefit of traits
for Enthought, is that they can plug directly into their Envisage
environment, which is the tool they use for developing applications -
and this can be useful because of plugins such as TVTK.

That would be a huge help.  I agree very much with you and Fernando
that we ought to start this discussion with the Enthought guys.
